The Great Global Chessboard is Changing in Geopolitical Terms

China is likely to be emboldened for far more threatening activity than in the past. The world is changing dramatically. To the extent that he will soon be almost unrecognizable to those who study international relations and geopolitical developments. Confirmations of earlier patterns and predictions are coming to the fore. Mainly the perceptions of the “global island” of Eurasia and how its control will also signal the sovereignty over the world.

The expert for years in geopolitical developments, pr. National Security Advisor of the American government, Zwigny Brzezinski in his book “The Great Chessboard” (1997) had warned about the dangers that loomed for the USA from some potential rearrangements. Mainly from their own actions, which would alienate critical Western and other forces from their camp and which would lead Russia closer to China.

We see all of this evolving and becoming flesh and blood through events unfolding around us. Logically, the expansion of NATO to the east of Russia would foretell a severe annoyance of Russia and its alignment with whoever can cover it geostrategically against a clearly hostile America. At the same time, other, more peripheral, countries of the Asian continent (mainly India and states of Indochina or even Central or South Asia) will turn to parallel alliances, seeing a new pole being created.

And of course he can be none other than China. Paradoxically enough, the US, with its actions, is doing everything it can to strengthen these formations, changing slowly in strategic axes. With implicit results and perspectives. Their policy towards the extremely sensitive issue of Taiwan for Beijing is typical.

Adopting for years a policy of “strategic uncertainty”, which does not make absolutely clear its future attitude towards an aggressive action by China against Taiwan (Republic Of China, ROC), Washington leaves room for misinterpretation. So when he adopts positions strongly friendly to Taipei (Taiwan’s capital) he causes almost violent reactions from Beijing.

Nancy Pelosi’s last visit to the ROC peaked the related reactions. Bringing the formation of this anti-US strong world axis much closer. China is likely to be emboldened for far more threatening activity than in the past.

To remember again Brzezinski (The Great Chessboard), using the words of H. Macinder: “He who rules Southern Europe rules the heart of Epirus. He who rules the heart of Epirus rules the World Island.
He who rules the World Island, rules the World”!
