Pax Americana: US Military Presence around the World

About 750 US military installations operate in 80 countries around the world. Turkey has the most American bases of all the other countries, which is 13 in number. The United States is the only country in world history to have such dominance. Great Britain in the 18th and 19th centuries may have reached the height of its size, but its army was small. Great Britain had to supplement its own troops with foreign mercenaries. In great wars, Great Britain provided financial support to its allies, not soldiers. The US has about three times as many bases as embassies and consulates. In addition, the United States has three times as many military installations as any other country combined. The United Kingdom has 145, Russia 30 and China 5.
